Before you cancel
Check the email on your receipt, the plan you purchased, and the next billing or order date. Sign in to that account before making changes.
Match the account email, plan and billing provider to your latest receipt. Choose the route below that matches that purchase.
How to cancel FreshBooks
Purchased directly from FreshBooks
- Save needed records and disconnect active bank connections as FreshBooks recommends.
- Open your profile picture or initials and choose Billing and Upgrade.
- Select the cancellation link at the bottom, add the requested comment and confirm.
- Save the request email with the last access date; Select-plan users or accounts without the link should contact Support.
Billed by Apple
- On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions.
- Select FreshBooks, choose Cancel Subscription or Cancel Free Trial, and finish confirmation.
- Record the expiry date shown for the Apple Account on your receipt.
A purchase made with Apple Pay on a website is not necessarily an App Store subscription. Match the receipt before choosing this route.
Open provider pageBilled by Google Play
- Open Google Play with the Google account used for payment. Go to Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Select FreshBooks, choose Cancel subscription, and complete the remaining prompts.
- Reopen the subscription and save its resulting status and end date.
If the subscription is missing, check other Google accounts and the purchase receipt. Installing an Android app does not establish who bills it.
Open provider pageMake sure renewal has stopped
Return to billing after the last confirmation screen. Save the canceled status or scheduled end date, plus any confirmation email. A support request awaiting a reply is not the same as a completed cancellation.
If another charge appears, compare its payment date, account and plan with that record. Contact the billing provider with the relevant receipt and confirmation.
What happens after cancellation?
- Access lasts to billing-period end. Recurring templates and bank connections stop, and clients can no longer pay invoices after cancellation takes effect.
Cancellation and refunds
Stopping renewal does not automatically reverse an earlier charge. If you want a payment reviewed, contact the billing provider using the receipt and cancellation confirmation. Ask which refund terms apply to that purchase.
Common questions
Can I rely on FreshBooks to retain my records indefinitely?
No. The help page warns that inactive accounts may be deactivated and deleted after 30 days or more, with email notice. Export your records first.
What should I keep after canceling?
Save the final confirmation, the effective date and any remaining order or term details. If another charge appears, compare it with this record and ask the provider to explain it.
