Why deleting Dropbox or letting a card expire is not cancellation

Use the plan's billing controls. App removal and payment-card changes do not produce a subscription cancellation record.

Why this happens

Dropbox warns that deleting the application or allowing the card to expire does not reliably end the subscription. The paid contract is managed separately, and payment information can be updated through billing systems. A proper cancellation leaves a confirmation and an effective downgrade date that these indirect actions do not provide.

What to do

  1. Sign in to the account that owns the paid plan and identify whether Dropbox or a store bills it.
  2. For direct individual billing, open Manage account, choose Cancel plan and finish the confirmation; use the store for a store purchase.
  3. Save the non-renewal confirmation and prepare your files for the lower storage allowance at the end of the period.

Check the result

If you already removed the app, use a browser to manage the contract. Do not treat a failed payment or an expired card as proof that the plan was canceled.
