Before downgrading Notion: review collaboration, uploads and history

A Free workspace can have limits that affect how a team works. Check those consequences before the paid cycle ends.

Why this happens

Notion's plan-change guidance makes the downgrade effective at the end of the billing cycle. That gives you a date to plan around, but it does not establish that every paid workflow will remain available. Review collaboration needs, upload limits and history access for the actual workspace.

What to do

  1. Open the paid workspace's plan comparison and identify which features your team currently uses.
  2. Export essential content and arrange any changes needed for collaboration, file uploads or reliance on version history.
  3. Complete the downgrade to Free and save the effective date, then communicate it to the workspace's users.

Check the result

Verify that the export contains the content you need rather than assuming the plan change creates a backup. A successful downgrade and preservation of a working team process are separate checks.
