How to Cancel Acorns Subscription

Acorns has no "cancel but keep investing" option. Cancelling the Bronze, Silver or Gold subscription closes all your Acorns accounts: Acorns sells the investments and sends the money to your linked checking account.

The short version

Before you cancel

  • Link a verified checking account. That is where Acorns sends your money.
  • Wait for pending transactions. Round-Ups or Recurring Investments that are still processing block closing; wait until they finish.
  • Acorns Later (IRA): withdrawing before age 59½ can mean a 10% penalty plus income tax. If you got a Later Match, closing before the 4-year holding period ends removes the full match. Consider a transfer to another IRA instead.
  • Moving investments elsewhere instead of cashing out costs $35 per ETF, and only whole shares move. Withdrawing is free.
  • Not ready to leave? You can pause transfers (Settings → Linked accounts → turn off Allow Transfers), but the subscription is still charged.

How to cancel

In the Acorns app

  1. Tap your profile icon, then Settings.
  2. Tap My Subscription, then Manage subscription.
  3. Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts to close your accounts.

To close just one account (Invest, Later, Checking or Early Invest), choose it under My Subscription and tap Close account. The monthly fee keeps running until the subscription itself is cancelled.

On acorns.com

  1. Sign in, open Profile & Settings, then My Subscription.
  2. Select Manage Subscriptions, then Cancel subscription.
  3. Confirm the account closures and keep the confirmation.

Acorns charges your linked bank account directly, not through the App Store. If you cancel within a day or two of the billing date, one more charge may still post.

Acorns: cancel your subscription

What happens to your money

  • Acorns sells your investments. Sell requests placed before 11am PT on market days usually process the same day.
  • It takes about 3–6 business days for the money to reach your bank account.
  • Selling can create taxable gains. Keep the tax forms Acorns sends you.
  • Closing Invest cancels pending Earn Rewards, Referral Rewards and Round-Ups.
  • Later and Early transfers to other providers go out as cash only, by wire or check, after a 5–7 business day review.

Acorns Early (custodial account for kids)

Acorns Early cannot be closed in the app, and it does not close when you cancel Gold. If you keep it open, it becomes a separate $8/month Early Lite subscription. To close it, contact Acorns Early at help@acornsearly.com or (855) 739-2859. Money from Early must be used for the child's benefit and arrives in 7–10 business days.

Common questions

Can I cancel Acorns but keep my investments?

No. Cancelling the subscription requires closing all accounts, and Acorns sells the investments. To keep them invested, transfer them to another brokerage first ($35 per ETF, whole shares only).

Why was I charged after withdrawing everything?

Withdrawing money does not cancel the subscription. Acorns says it cannot refund charges in that case, so cancel in My Subscription.
