Personal or work Microsoft 365: avoid the wrong cancellation guide

Why this happens

Before changing a plan, establish whether the charge belongs to a personal Microsoft account or an organization's billing arrangement. The account type affects who can manage it and whose access could be affected. A work email address in an Office app does not by itself identify the contract on your bank statement.

What to do

1. Compare the receipt's product and purchaser with the account shown in Services & subscriptions.
2. If it is a personal plan you own, use its cancellation controls and review the expiry and storage consequences.
3. If the receipt belongs to an organization, contact its authorized billing administrator and ask them to identify the contract and intended users before making changes.

Check the result

Keep the request scoped to the billed product. A personal cancellation confirmation does not prove that a separate business agreement or organization-wide renewal has ended.
